The Advocacy Engine: Our Strategic Alliance with the Calgary Climate Hub
You can build the best bike lanes in the world, but they don’t mean much without bikes to fill them. Our strategic alliance with the Calgary Climate Hub is about bridging the gap between climate policy and community action.
The Calgary Climate Hub is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to making Calgary a leader in climate action. From advocating for the 5A Network (Always Available for All Ages and Abilities) to pushing for a net-zero Calgary by 2050, they are the tireless voice for a more resilient city.
Our alliance with the Calgary Climate Hub is a perfect match of Policy meets Pedals. While they work on the systemic changes and advocacy needed to transform our city’s infrastructure, we provide the practical hardware in the form of bikes and bike racks that allows Calgarians to actually use those new bike lanes.
This is where the math gets exciting. Through our ISO 14064 carbon accounting, we know that every car trip replaced by a bike trip is a measurable win for the planet.
- The Advocacy: The Hub works at City Hall to secure funding for active transit.
- The Bikes: We run the swaps that get those commuters onto reliable, tech-checked rides.
- The Result: We’re moving the needle on the 32% of Calgary’s emissions that come from gas and diesel vehicles.
As one of the largest bike swaps in North America, we speak the Hub’s language of data and strategy. They understand that the circular economy and education funding of our bike swaps is making cycling a primary mode of transport for Calgarians. When people feel safe and secure on their ride, they ride more often.
We appreciate the Calgary Climate Hub because they are the connectors. They bring together diverse nodes of the city to fight for a common goal. They’ve promoted our swaps for years because they recognize that a circular economy for bicycles is one of the fastest ways to lower our collective carbon footprint.
Want to be part of the change? Join a Hub & Spokes group ride or sign up for one of the Hub’s advocacy campaigns. And when you’re ready to upgrade your ride for a lower-carbon life, we’ll see you at the swap!
