Joy Without Barriers: Our Strategic Alliance with You Can Ride 2
Do you remember the first time you felt the wind in your face while riding a bike? At Alberta Bike Swap, we believe that rite of passage should be available to everyone. Our Strategic Alliance with You Can Ride 2 is dedicated to breaking down the physical and financial barriers to cycling for children with complex needs.
Our Strategic Alliance with You Can Ride 2 (YCR2) is a deeply rewarding partnership that ensures every child, regardless of ability, can experience the joy and freedom of riding a bike. Based in Edmonton and operating out of the Goodwill Impact Centre, YCR2 is a leader in adaptive cycling, providing modified bikes and specialized training for children with disabilities.
YCR2 isn’t just about bikes; it’s about specialized engineering and pediatric expertise. Their team of volunteer physical therapists and mechanics customize each ride to the specific needs of the child—whether that’s a recumbent trike, a handcycle, or a bike with specialized supportive seating.
The Impact of Your Donations:
- First Pick of the Fleet: Because only specific frames and geometries work for adaptive cycling, You Can Ride 2 (in Edmonton) and CP Kids & Families (in Calgary) always get the first pick of the bikes donated at our swaps.
- Borrow a Bike: YCR2 manages a pool of over 200 adaptive bikes, allowing families to borrow expensive specialized equipment that a child might otherwise outgrow.
- Learn to Ride: Their 6-week evidence-based course helps children with coordination challenges master the skills they need to ride independently.
Chris and Laura ensure the steady flow of bike donations and funding, while the experts at YCR2 transform those resources into smiles, confidence, and independence.
