Advocating for Every Kilometer: Our Strategic Alliance with RDABC (Red Deer Association for Bicycle Commuting)

A bike swap is more than a one-day event; it’s a catalyst for long-term community change. Our Strategic Alliance with the Red Deer Association for Bicycle Commuting (RDABC) began when their dedicated members stepped up to volunteer at our Red Deer swap, and it has since grown into a powerful partnership for provincial mobility.

RDABC is the leading voice for safe, protected, and connected bike routes in Red Deer. They are the advocates who show up at City Hall to ensure that cycling is recognized as a legitimate and essential mode of transportation. When we brought Alberta Bike Swap to Red Deer, RDABC was right there with us, providing the volunteer power and local expertise to make the event a success. Our Strategic Alliance with the Red Deer Association for Bicycle Commuting (RDABC) is a perfect example of community advocacy meeting operational action. This alliance was forged on the ground in Red Deer and continues to strengthen the active transit landscape across Central Alberta.

From Advocacy to Action:

• Volunteer Leadership: RDABC members don’t just talk about cycling; they live it. Their volunteers were instrumental in helping us manage the flow of our Red Deer events.
• Refurbishing the Future: While Chris and Laura manage the heavy lifting of logistics, RDABC helps connect donated bikes to those who need them most. In fact, members of the RDABC executive also volunteer with the Red Deer Optimists Bikes for Kids program, ensuring that every donation is rebuilt and returned to the community.
• A Greener Commute: By working together, we are directly contributing to the Circular Economy and helping Red Deer residents trade their car keys for handlebars.

Chris and Laura know that the people in RDABC work well with other groups; RDABC is the gold standard of collaborative advocacy. Together, we are building a safer, more bike-friendly Alberta, one commute at a time.
