Honoured and Humbled: Alberta Bike Swap & Chris Named Finalists for Calgary Chamber and ASTech Awards!

As I read that we’ve lost our 56th grant there is always good news on the horizon.

At Alberta Bike Swap, we spend most of our time focused on the practical stuff: vetting bike serial numbers against databases, putting on Bike Index and Project 529 bike registration events, working on software, writing grants, organizing legitimate CAN-BIKE cycling education, and mentoring that next generation of tech.

So when two major award organizations shine a spotlight on our work at the exact same time, it takes a minute to sink in!

We are thrilled to announce two major honours:

1. Calgary Chamber of Commerce Social Enterprise Finalist: Alberta Bike Swap has been selected as a finalist for our non-profit social enterprise, which redirects event proceeds back into legitimate cycling education, youth bike giveaways, and transportation security.

2. ASTech Award Finalist: Our co-founder, Chris Grant, has been named an ASTech Award Finalist in recognition of his work developing the technical inspection framework, software verification systems, and data-driven anti-theft workflows that power our events.

Honouring Alberta’s Innovators & Changemakers

While we are deeply grateful for these nominations, the best part of being a finalist is looking around the room at who we get to share the space with. Alberta is home to some of the most creative, resilient, and high-impact social enterprises and technology leaders in the country.

We want to extend a huge congratulations and good luck to all the other finalists in both the Calgary Chamber and ASTech categories! Your work pushes our province forward, and we are honoured to stand alongside you.

Awards are wonderful, but our core mission always remains the same: ensuring people have access to safe, legitimate, and secure active transportation. Every single bike checked at our floor and every serial number verified  because of our incredible network of volunteers and strategic partners.
