As Alberta’s official Bike Index and Project 529 Ambassadors, Alberta Bike Swap is dedicated to…
A Busy Week of Bike Protection, Youth Giveaways, and International Aid
What a week it’s been for Alberta Bike Swap! From local path safety to international shipping containers, we’ve been hard at work making sure bikes are protected, restored, and placed into the hands of people who need them most.
Protecting Rides in East Village
We kicked off the week by hosting a free Bike Index registration event at RiverWalk Plaza in East Village. We had a steady stream of cyclists stopping by to log their serial numbers, upload photos, and secure their frames against theft.
A huge thank you to the Calgary Police Service for supplying official Bike Index stickers and joining us on-site to answer questions, and to East Village for providing a fantastic location along the river pathway.
Rebuilding Bikes with Calgary Chinook Kiwanis (Mechanics & 24″ Bikes Needed!)
Later in the week, we spent time volunteering with Calgary Chinook Kiwanis to tune up and rebuild bikes for their upcoming youth bike giveaway.
We need your help: We are currently running low on 24″ bicycles and are actively looking for volunteer mechanics.
Every child deserves the freedom, health benefits, and joy of owning their own bicycle. It’s heartbreaking when there aren’t enough bikes to meet the demand. If you have a 24″ bike to donate, Calgary Chinook Kiwanis is a legitimate, caring, long-standing charity that helps families quietly and directly without any unnecessary fanfare. Reach out to us if you’d like to donate!
Shipping Bikes to Malawi with B4H Calgary
To finish off the week, we are joining Bikes for Humanity (B4H) Calgary this Friday to load a shipping container full of bicycles bound for Malawi. These bikes provide crucial, life-changing transportation for health workers, students, and families overseas.
Want to volunteer? If you’d like to help break down and pack bikes into the container this Friday, contact us directly and we’ll get you set up with the B4H team!
We have immense respect for the quiet, hard-working bike charities that make our world a better place—one pedal stroke at a time. Thank you for your continued support!
