Things to do Calgary: Free Bike Index Registration at RiverWalk Plaza, East Village Sunday August 2
Actionable Theft Prevention
Bicycle theft remains a primary obstacle to active transportation adoption, but the solution relies heavily on objective data.
When a bicycle lacks a recorded serial number tied to a verified owner, law enforcement officers cannot confirm ownership upon recovering property. Consequently, hundreds of recovered bikes remain unclaimed each year. To solve this data gap, Alberta Bike Swap is partnering directly with law enforcement for an accessible public registration drive.
The solution is to records your bike on a bike ownership database – Bike Index and / or Project 529. You can register your bike on Bike Index and get a Bike Index sticker courtesy of Calgary Police Sunday, August 2nd and we can discuss bike registries.
Time: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Location: RiverWalk Plaza, East Village
Free Bike Index Registration: Our team will help you locate your frame’s serial number and link it to your verified profile on Bike Index.
Law Enforcement Q&A: Speak directly with officers from the Calgary Police Service Bike Recovery Unit regarding locking mechanics and theft recovery protocols
Acknowledgements: We want to express our gratitude to East Village (@eastvillageyyc) for hosting this event at RiverWalk Plaza, East Village, and to the Calgary Police Service (@calgarypolice) for their ongoing dedication to collaborative, data-driven community safety
