From Skis to Spokes: Our Strategic Alliance with the Canadian Birkie

What happens when the kings of the winter trails meet the masters of the sharrows? A strategic alliance built on endurance, heritage, and a deep respect for the Alberta landscape. Alberta Bike Swap is proud to partner with the Canadian Birkie.

Canadian Birkebeiner, or The Birkie, is one of Canada’s premier Nordic ski festivals. Rooted in a 13th-century Norwegian legend, this event brings thousands of skiers to the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area every February. They are champions of active living and environmental stewardship.

Our alliance with the Canadian Birkie (Canadian Birkebeiner Society) is a celebration of year-round endurance and the great outdoors spirit of Alberta. Whether on skis or on two wheels, our communities share the same drive for sustainability, physical health, and the preservation of our provincial parks.

Cycling and cross-country skiing are the ultimate sister sports. Most Birkie athletes spend their summers on a bike to maintain the aerobic engine required for a 55km ski.
