A Recipe for Impact: Our Strategic Alliance with Wood’s Homes YCAP
Our Strategic Alliance with Wood’s Homes and their Youth Culinary Arts Program (YCAP) is a partnership that feeds both the body and the soul. As a nationally recognized mental health centre, Wood’s Homes does essential work for children and families, and we are proud to support their mission through both donations and operational synergy.
At Alberta Bike Swap, we know that building a stronger community takes more than just bikes—it takes a village. Our Strategic Alliance with Wood’s Homes is one of our most meaningful connections, blending youth empowerment with the practical needs of our events.
The Youth Culinary Arts Program (YCAP) is a social enterprise that provides at-risk youth with hands-on training under Red Seal chefs. When we host our Calgary events, we don’t just order catering; we invest in the future of Calgary’s youth. The food provided by YCAP consistently receives rave reviews from our volunteers, proving that high-quality training leads to world-class results.
Impact Beyond the Plate:
- Bikes for Children: A few years ago, our team collected and rebuilt 60 bikes specifically for children in need within the Wood’s Homes network. Seeing those kids find freedom on two wheels is a highlight of our 15-year history.
- Feeding the Mission: By choosing YCAP to feed our Calgary volunteers, we ensure that our event budget stays within the Circular Economy, supporting a program that teaches life skills, conflict management, and teamwork.
- A True Pillar of Society: Wood’s Homes has been serving our community since 1914. Their commitment to never giving up on youth matches our own dedication to the community we serve.
Chris and Laura handle the logistics, but Wood’s Homes handles the heart. We are honored to play a small part in the incredible legacy of this Calgary institution.
