Complete. The racks are loaded and unloaded; tables & trailer returned, Facebook checked and it’s time to try and sleep. While it was cool (really, really) to have the Mayor come by, but what strikes us is the people that contact us, year after year to volunteer. It isn’t fancy work, it can be stressful, but you people amaze us – no matter what we ask – you do. Our hats are off, our hearts belong to you. You inspire us to do better. The buyers! Patience must be your middle name. Thank-you. Sellers, we’ll need to ask you to hang tough as we go through paperwork. We’ll have the easy cheques in the mail on Monday night. Shops, groups, events and sponsors – what can I say, but a big thank-you? The Calgary Parking Authority delivered, and that is no surprise from such a professional organisation. They went beyond professional responsibility and made it a personal commitment to our success today. Team CPA – you are number 1 with a gold star. What didn’t happen today? It didn’t snow! So now we’re 2 and 2 for snow / no snow. Any bets on next year?

What a wonderful day we had in Lethbridge with BikeBridge Cycling Association at the FO Eagles hall. The Alberta Motor Association came to share the information on their regular and bike assist programmes. Two shops, Berts and Mac’s and Alpenland brought out bikes, and we had a great assortment of bikes from private sellers. We did learn a few things, and we’ll adjust our info for Calgary and Edmonton, but tell us this – how do we reach people with the bikes they’re not using anymore? How do we get them out to the Swap? Trucks are booked! I’ve always had good service and vehicles with AVIS and have decided to go with a quality (read – safe) supplier this year. Believe it or not, there is no real price difference! The cube vans are not available on-line, so see Dave at the 5707 MacLeod Trail SW location.

4th Annual Re-cycle and Exchange Event

Wow – we were out at the Ecole St. Cecilia School 4th bicycle Re-cycle and Exchange Event this morning. Check out their details through our Sponsors and Participants page. Harry and his crew started accepting, sorting, checking, and fixing bikes Thursday night and had 310 kids and adult bikes ready to go at 9:00. Most of those bikes were gone by 10:00 AM! While many of the bikes were ready to ride away, some required a bit of TLC. Check ‘em out. It’s a great way to recycle and replace kids’ bikes.

That’s right, the Alberta Motor Association is a major Sponsor of Alberta Bike Swap. The Community Services section has recognised the value Alberta Bike Swap is providing to the cities we are involved in, and an opportunity for AMA members to benefit as well. At the Calgary and Edmonton Bike Swap events, AMA will be presenting information on it’s Bike Assist service that was launched in 2012 . We won’t cover member benefits, or Bike Assist details here, but members can watch for AMA emails and everyone can come to the Swaps for whole story.

Lethbridge hours of operation update

For our first event in Lethbridge, we’re using a different timing than Calgary and Edmonton. Sellers drop off bikes from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM , then the sale runs 12:30 – 3:00 PM.

Route 93 ‘End to End’ to End MS

Like bikes? Like riding bikes? How about 3000 km in 3 weeks? That’s what Jasper Fire Chief Greg Van Tighem plans on doing later this month. Greg will ride from Wickenburg Arizona, to Jasper Alberta – all on Route 93.

I’ve seen Greg and his Rockhopper Team at the Hinton MS Mountain Tour, so it is not surprising he has kicked-up the physical challenge and the financial goal.
